The Baby Elephant

This is a story about a baby elephant. The baby elephant is not happy. He says, “I don’t like to work at the circus. I don’t want to work at the circus. I don’t want to do tricks for children. I want to run away”.  So he runs away. He comes to a forest and sees a brown bear. He says to the brown bear, “I want to live with you in the forest”.

“All right,” says the brown bear. “But you must get ready for the winter. You must find a hole in which you can sleep in winter.”

The baby elephant does not like to work. He does not want to look for a hole. So he goes away. He walks and walks. Then he sees a squirrel and says to him, “I want to live with you”.

“All right”, says the squirrel. “ But you must get ready for  the winter. You must get nuts for the winter”.

But the baby elephant says, “I don’t want to get ready for the winter. I don’t want to get nuts for the winter. I don’t want to look for a hole. I don’t want to live in the forest. I want to go home. And the baby elephant goes back to the circus.

The Children In The Forest

Two children, a brother and a sister go to school. There is a forest on their way to school. Suddenly the boy says to his sister: «We have much time, let’s go to the forest and play there».

The girl wants to go into the forest too. So they put their books on the grass and go into the forest. They see a squirrel. The boy says:

«Little squirrel, come and play with us”.

«I have no time”, says the squirrel. “I must get nuts. I must get ready for the winter. I cannot play with you.”

Then the children see a bee. The boy says:

“Little bee, come and play with us”.

“I have no time”, says the bee. “I must make honey. I cannot play with you.”

The dove says: “ I cannot play with you. I have no time. I must make a nest for my babies.”

Nobody wants to play with the children.

So they go to the river. They say to the river,”You don’t work. You come and play with us”.

But the river says: “I cannot play with you.  I work all day. I give water to the fields. I give water to the flowers. I give water to the squirrel, to the bee,  to the dove and to girls and boys like you. Go away. You go to school.”

The children go to school. On the way home, they go into the forest again.

The squirrel says to the children:

“Work is over. School is over. Let’s play now.”

The bee says,”Work is over. School is over. Come and play with me now.”

Mother love

I was walking under the trees in my garden. There was a strong wind. My dog was running in front of me. Suddenly he stopped and then went again very slowly. I walked on and watched the dog.

Then I saw a little bird on the ground in front of the dog. It was a baby bird. Its nest was up in a tree; but the poor little bird couldn’t get back into the nest; it couldn’t fly. My dog was  near the baby bird. He wanted to catch it. But suddenly the mother bird flew out of a tree and fell like a stone in front of the dog. She flew at him and cried. She was ready to fight for her baby. She was ready to fight a big dog. How strong she was! How brave she was!

My dog stopped. He knew that the mother bird was very strong. He knew that she was  ready to fight him.

“Come!” I said to the dog. And we went away.

I thought about that little mother bird. How strong was love!
